Alessandro Oltramari is a leading researcher at the intersection of knowledge representation, neuro-symbolic AI, and cognitive systems. He joined Bosch Research in 2016 after a decade at Carnegie Mellon University and Princeton University, and earlier research at Italy's Laboratory for Applied Ontology. He is co-author of the Compendium of Neurosymbolic Artificial Intelligence and has pioneered work on commonsense knowledge graphs, explainable AI, and human-machine collaboration, with applications spanning autonomous vehicles, robotics, and smart manufacturing. He holds a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science from the University of Trento, Italy.

Dr. Oltramari's work sits at the heart of this workshop's themes: he has spent years investigating how symbolic knowledge and neural learning can be unified to give robots and AI systems the kind of structured, explainable understanding that enables genuine human–robot teaming. His industrial experience at Bosch brings a vital perspective on deploying neuro-symbolic cognitive architectures in real-world, safety-critical environments.
